Holiday Gift Giving Guidelines
Christmas at the Light HouseEach year volunteers serve Christmas dinner to the Shelter residents and provide meal baskets to families in need. We are grateful to have plenty of volunteers signed up to serve dinner on Christmas. However, we are looking for volunteers to provide portable Christmas meals to families in need.
If you are interested in supplying a full Christmas meal please email volunteer@annapolislighthouse.org. If you are not able to contribute a full basket, we welcome food items and grocery gift cards at any time.
Delivery
Please deliver your basket to the Light House on Sunday, December 20th between 9:00am to 1:00pm. Each basket should contain enough of the following for 6 people:
- Bacon, eggs, pancake mix and syrup
- Canned sweet potatoes
- Canned green beans
- Coffee, tea and hot chocolate
- Cranberry and apple sauce
- Dinner Rolls
- Fruit
- Milk
- Pie or pie ingredients
- Sauerkraut and potatoes
- Stuffing
- Sugar, flour and gravy mix
- Turkey or grocery store gift card to purchase a turkey
Parking
Parking is available behind the Shelter in the Light House designated spots or on Madison Street. Volunteers will assist with bringing the items into the Shelter.
Please do not park immediately parallel to the Shelter as this inconveniences our neighbors and creates traffic congestion.
Gift Giving at the Light House
Because we are unable to effectively coordinate individual gift giving, we unfortunately cannot accept any presents or items dropped off at the Light House. We are excited about our move to our larger shelter next year where we will have the space and volunteers to manage an effective gift-giving program. Until then, please consider the following selection of meaningful gifts so you can share your holidays with our neighbors in need.
Please consider giving a gift that is true to the spirit of the holidays:
- $1,500 – one MONTH of shelter and support for one homeless person at the Light House
- $500 – one MEAL for all homeless residents being served by the Light House
- $100 – one BOX of necessities for one homeless child
- $75 – one BAG of winter survival items for one homeless person living on the streets
- $50 – one DAY of shelter and support at the Light House for one homeless person
- $25 – one CARD of weekly bus passes
Stocking Stuffers
Gift cards are a great way for our homeless residents to receive the items they desperately need. We welcome cards of any amount.
- Grocery Store – helps feed hungry families
- Goodwill Store – provides clothing and winter coats, gloves, hats, scarves
- Pharmacy Drug Store – pays for medical supplies and prescriptions
- Phone Cards – reconnects family members and job opportunities
- Home Depot – helps to maintain and repair our shelter and transitional houses
