Questions About The Steps to Becoming a Volunteer:

What are the steps to become a volunteer?

When are volunteer orientations held, and how do I sign up?
Volunteer orientations are held three times per month at The Light House on the:
1st Saturday: 9-10am   • 2nd Friday: 9-10am   • 3rd Wednesday:  7-8pm
 You can up for an orientation date when filling out your volunteer application.

Are there any volunteer opportunities that do not require attending an orientation or filling out a volunteer application? Yes, making bagged lunches or holding a food/donation drive are volunteer opportunities that do not require attending an orientation or filling out a volunteer application. Directions for Using Our Volunteer Information Center (VIC):

Once you have completed all the steps to volunteer at The Light House, you will be able to login to our Volunteer Information Center (VIC), where you will be able to sign up for one the many Light House volunteer opportunities, update your profile and track your volunteer hours.

Can I sign up for multiple volunteer opportunities at once? You can sign up for multiple volunteer opportunities but you must sign up for them one at a time. You can even sign up for multiple opportunities up to the end of the calendar year.


Questions About Specific Volunteer Opportunities:

Breakfast:

What time should breakfast be served? Breakfast is served at 7:00 am on weekdays and 8:00 am on weekends.

Who provides the food? Each volunteer group plans their menu, provides the food, prepares the food and serves it.

Do I have to cook all the food at home or can I use your kitchen? Our kitchen is available to cook your meal at 5:00 am each day. If you prefer to bring your meal and heat it up, please be sure to arrive by 6:00 am to allow enough time to heat the food to 160 degrees.

Do you have pots, pans, dishes, cups, silverware and serving utensils? We have all the items listed to prepare and serve the meal.

Who cleans up the dishes? Cleaning up the kitchen and dishes is done by our clients. We ask that you remove all food and other items from the kitchen so the clients can clean thoroughly.

If I want to ask question about the kitchen appliances, whom should I contact? Please contact our Executive Chef, Linda Vogler, at lvogler@annapolislighthouse.org regarding any kitchen questions.

If I want to be scheduled to make breakfast at the shelter, whom should I contact? Please contact Kris McNally our Director of Volunteer Services by emailing kmcnally@annapolislighthouse.org to be scheduled to make breakfast.

What item can I bring as a donation when I make a meal?A gallon of milk is something we always need donated.

Can I drop off my food the night before I am making breakfast? Yes, you can drop off your food and place it in our walk-in cooler, but please put it in a box and label the box with your groups name and the date.

How many residents should we plan on feeding? To receive an accurate head count of the total residents, please contact the front desk at 410-263-1835.

Dinners:

How old do you have to be to volunteer at the Light House? Anyone age 18 or older is welcome to volunteer.

What if I am under the age of 18 can I still volunteer? If you are under the age of 18 it is required that a parent or legal guardian be with you while you volunteer at The Light House.
